I don’t use a lot of yellow, but I had come across a number of yellow items recently, and then Donovan entered the scene. I decided to take a closer look at his song, and in doing so, I came across a Wikipedia article about the song’s origin. It seems that back in 1966 when Donovan wrote the lyrics, he saw an ad for a yellow dildo called a “mellow yellow,” and that inspired the electrical banana reference. Now for me, I would never think of yellow as being a particularly erotic color, but hey, it was the 60s, so why not?

So I decided to make a piece that I hope embodies some of that 60s vibe with some playful references to masterbation. Yeah, probably not going on my Facebook page, but you’ll find it on Instagram @nataliewschorr .
